My 2013 Bibles for America Volunteer Experience - Handing Out Tracts

Last week I joined about seven other believers to distribute free study Bibles from Bibles for America and tracts to college students at a nearby university. Several weeks before this event, I had prayed with another believer for this distribution.

Something I heard from the Crystallization Study of Genesis kept coming back up when we prayed—the Spirit’s brooding.   Here’s some background on that:   I learned from reading the Life-Study of Genesis that  in chapter 1 it shows the steps God took to recover the earth after Satan’s rebellion (between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2). It's important to note here that these are the same steps that God uses in each one of our hearts to bring us to salvation.
(1)  The first step God took is seen in Genesis 1:2 where it says, The Spirit of God was brooding over the surface of the waters.
(2)   The second step is God’s speaking.  Last week I  counted how many times it had the phrase And God said, and you know what—it’s ten times! (One of those times it says And God blessed them and said….).
(3)  The third step God took to recover the earth was to say, Let there be light!. So the first 3 steps God took to generate life on the earth are brooding, God's speaking, and light.
Before we went over to the university, we gathered together to pray, and we prayed that the Spirit would brood over all of these college students that their hearts would be open to the shining word of God.  Afterwards we read part of a chapter called  How to Distribute Tracts I’ve read this before, and it always encourages me that handing out tracts is so important! On pages 412-413 Watchman Nee encourages people to pray for their tract giving:
We should pray 1) that God would bless those who receive the tracts; 2) that God would not allow the tracts to be destroyed; ) that God would allow the tracts to be passed along; 4) that God would save everyone whose hand has touched the tracts; and 5) that God would extend the days of the tracts (Nee, Watchman. Miscellaneous Records of the Kuling Training (2), 1993)

On the day that I helped out, we handed out about 950 tracts. On the next day they printed more and we all passed out about 1,500.  Around the 22nd of September we usually have beautiful weather, but not this time—it was rainy and windy when we arrived.  Three of us stood under a large maple tree in Red Square with rain dripping down on us while we handed out tracts to students on their way to the Info Fair.

I had a few conversations with students to ask where they were from and if they were new or returning students.  I also told some of them that I was a volunteer for Bibles for America and we had a table off vendor’s row with a free study Bible with over 9,000 footnotes.  When we left that day, we felt so happy that we did our part.  Because after all--It’s the Spirit’s job to brood, and the Lord’s job to Save!
